Spam Filtering Activated for All University Email Addresses

Friday, October 10, 2008

Effective October 12, 2008, the Spam and Virus Filtering Service will be activated for all University email addresses for which spam filtering was not previously activated.

CSSD is taking this action to reduce the possibility that outside email providers such as Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo! will place University servers on a blacklist and either reject or delay delivery of mail forwarded from University addresses. Blacklisting is frequently being used by these providers to reduce the amount of spam messages they receive. The primary reason University email servers are blacklisted is because our users forward messages to outside email accounts without enabling spam filtering.

Students, faculty, and staff affected by this change have received an email message with additional details. Please contact the Technology Help Desk at 412 624-HELP [4357] if you have any questions or need assistance.
