Microsoft Corporation has announced a new critical security vulnerability affecting Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Internet Explorer. CSSD recommends that users immediately identify and install the security update necessary to repair this vulnerability by using the Pitt Software Update Service.
If you are not already using this service, you can install it using the Software Download Service. Log in to My Pitt (my.pitt.edu), select Software Downloads from the right-hand side of the main page, and click the Software Download Service Login link. Search for "Software Update Service" and follow the instructions to download and install it.
The correct updates for your computer will then be installed on the schedule you specify. Updates will be available through the Pitt Software Update Service by Thursday, June 13.
In addition to installing the Microsoft patch, CSSD also recommends that all users install Symantec Endpoint Protection and use the LiveUpdate feature to get the latest virus definitions. Symantec EndPoint Protection is available at no cost to students, faculty, staff, and departments from CSSD Software Distribution Services, 204 Bellefield Hall, and from the Software Download Service at My Pitt.
