Installing the Pitt Printing Client

Overview

The Pitt Printing Service enables students to send print jobs from any location to Pitt Print Stations available in the Student Computing Labs and various remote locations across campus including all residence halls. You can print from Student Computing Labs and Computer Kiosks, as well as from almost any device with an Internet connection whether you are on or off campus. Visit Pitt Printing for a complete list of Pitt Print Station locations.

Pitt Printing enables black & white and color printing from:

  • Windows or Macintosh personal computers that have the Pitt Printing Client installed
  • Computer Kiosks
  • Computers in the Student Computing Labs
  • Smartphones and tablets

Note: Color Pitt Print Stations are only located in Student Computing Labs. Pitt Printing Client 17.0, released in Fall 2016, or later is required for printing to the color printers from a personal device.

Pitt Printing is available for download at the Software Download Service at My Pitt. Follow the instructions below to install the Pitt Printing Client.

Determine if your Windows Computer Uses a 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System

If you are a Macintosh user, skip the instructions in this section.

The Pitt Printing Client for Windows is available for download on the Software Download Service at My Pitt as a 32-bit or a 64-bit version. Before beginning a Windows download, use the following instructions to determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows:

Windows 7 Users

Windows 8  & 10 Users

1.  Click the Start button.

2.  Right-click Computer, then click Properties.

3.  Under System, you can view the System type information. This will tell you if it is a 32-bit or 64-bit computer.

4.  Close any open windows.

Configure Your Computer

To download the Pitt Printing client, complete the following steps.

1.  Open a Web browser to the Software Download Service at My Pitt and log in using your University Computer Account username and password.

2.  Click the Software Download Service Login link, then select University of Pittsburgh from the Choose Vendor drop-down menu.

3.  A list of matching results will display. Click the Pitt Printing Client link for the version of the download that you need.

4.  Click the Download all Files button, then select a location to save the file to your computer.

Windows

a.    To start the installation, double click the downloaded file to launch the installer.

b.    Click the Install button to begin the installation.

Note: If you see a security warning, you must agree to it before the installation can proceed.

Macintosh

a.     Mac users need to double click the downloaded file.

b.     Next, double click the Pitt-Print-Printer file.

c.     Click the Continue button.

Note: If you see a security warning, you must agree to it before the installation can proceed.

Note: During the installation, Mac users will be prompted to enter the username and password for their computer.

5.  Follow the prompts to complete the installation process.

6.  To log out of the Software Download Service, close your Web browser.

7.  The Pitt Printing software has now been installed on your computer. To use the service, follow the instructions in the help sheet titled Using the Pitt Printing Service.
