Computing Services and Systems Development recommends that you protect your computer by using an anti-virus program, such as Symantec Endpoint Protection. It is important to prevent viruses, worms, spyware, and other forms of malware from infecting your computer. These malicious programs can destroy your data, compromise sensitive information, and attempt to spread themselves to other computers on the network. They can also allow hackers to take over your computer.

Although many new computers come with trial versions of anti-virus software or you may already have another anti-virus program installed, CSSD recommends uninstalling these programs and using Symantec Endpoint Protection which is provided to you for free.

You may acquire Symantec Endpoint Protection at no cost via the Software Download Service at My Pitt by following these steps:

  1. Log in to My Pitt with your University Computing Account username and password.
  2. Click the Software Download Service Login link.
  3. From the Featured Software list, select Symantec Endpoint Protection for your computer: a Mac version as well as Windows 32-bit and 64-bit are available.
  4. Follow the instructions on the page to download and install the software.
