Improper Disposal of Computer Media
Units that are planning to recycle and throw away computer equipment and media are required to do so in a manner that securely removes sensitive information.
Sensitive information such as personal information, data from University payroll or student systems, or patient information may be stored on computer disk drives, CD ROMs, backup tapes, and other computer media. This media must be properly disposed of to ensure sensitive information is not improperly disclosed.
The University's Surplus Property group offers a free service for securely removing and disposing of end-of-life computers and hard disks.
