A variety of security software tools are available to help protect your computer and the University's computing environment.
Anti-spyware
Protect your Windows computer from spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy. This can be downloaded at software.pitt.edu.
Anti-virus
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 protects Windows computers and Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 protects Macs. Both can be downloaded at software.pitt.edu.
Encryption
Students, faculty, and staff can use SecureZIP to encrypt files on their Windows computers. Faculty and staff can use tools available in the Secure Your Data community to encrypt their entire hard drive.
Laptop Recovery
ComputracePlus (available to faculty and staff) and Computrace LoJack (available to students) are software programs that enable laptop computers to be traced in the event that they are ever lost or stolen.
Security Vulnerability Scans
Departmental IT staff can use tools available in the Secure Your Data community to identify security vulnerabilities in Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.
Sensitive Information Discovery
Tools in the Secure Your Data portal community enable faculty and staff to scan for sensitive information that may be stored on Windows, Mac, and Linux workstations. Departmental IT staff can also use these tools to scan servers.
Pitt Software Update Service
Students, faculty, and staff can get critical updates for Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office automatically through the Pitt Software Update Service.
