Pitt Text Message Updates is a notification subscription service that allows University students, faculty, and staff to receive news, updates, and other information provided by University departments in text and and/or email format. University departments may use this service to share short, 140-character text updates. Anyone can subscribe to receive text updates through their Profile page at My Pitt (my.pitt.edu). Departments can request the creation of their own text message list by contacting the Technology Help Desk.
Join a List
- Log on to My Pitt
- Click the Profile link near the top of the page
- Click Pitt Text Message Updates on the left side of the page
- Follow the instructions and click Save Preferences.
Note: There is no cost to subscribe to the service, but subscribers are responsible for any messaging fees from their mobile phone/device provider.
Leave a List
Log on to My Pitt (see the instructions above), uncheck the list you no longer want to follow, and click Save Preferences.
You can also text pitt unsub code to 41411, where code represents the name of the list you no longer want to follow. To unsubscribe from all lists at once, text pitt unsub all to 41411.
Note: When you leave the University and your University Computing Account is deactivated, you will automatically be unsubscribed from Pitt Text Message Updates.
Request Your Own List
CSSD's Notify U service enables you to create your own list for distributing Pitt Text Message Updates. To request a list, contact the Technology Help Desk at 412 624-HELP . There is no cost to set up a list.
When you send a message from your list, it automatically delivers a text message and/or email to everyone who has joined your list.
Note: Lists can be requested only by a full-time faculty or staff member. Student groups may also create a list if a full-time faculty or staff member sponsors their list and submits the request.
