PittNet (Wireless): Connecting to Wireless PittNet with Mac OS X 10.8 & 10.9

Overview

The University of Pittsburgh's Wireless PittNet service provides wireless network access to all University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, and staff.

Note: You must have installed the InCommon certificates before completing the instructions below. Refer to the help sheet titled Installing the InCommon and UserTrust Certificates (Mac) for details.

Electrical Maintenance to Affect Greensburg Campus on Oct. 8

Greensburg has scheduled maintenance to the electrical system will affect network service and electrical power for the Greensburg campus on October 8. Network service and electrical power will be unavailable from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 while work is completed to install a new generator.

Although the maintenance is scheduled to end at 6:00 p.m., network service and electrical power will be restored earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule. This maintenance is necessary to enhance the stability and reliability of the electrical system in Cassell Hall.

Network Maintenance to Affect BST, Petersen on Oct. 15

Scheduled maintenance will affect wired and wireless network service and telecommunications service in Biomedical Science Tower and Petersen Events Center during the standard downtime period on October 15. Network and voice service will be unavailable from 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15 until 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 16 while work is completed.

Although the maintenance is scheduled to end at 3:00 a.m., network service will be restored earlier if work is completed ahead of schedule. This maintenance is necessary to enhance the stability and reliability of the network.

Register for our Cyber Security Symposium on Oct. 25

In recognition of Cyber Security Awareness Month, we invite you to join us for our third annual Cyber Security Symposium on October 25 in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to all University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, and staff. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Rohyt Belani, a cyber security industry veteran and former adjunct faculty at Carnegie Mellon, will present our keynote address: “The Most Important Defense Against Cyber Attacks? You.”

Rohyt will walk through the details of a real-world cyber attack. He will then discuss how the world is starting to think differently when it comes to cyber-defense and how those strategies now place you front and center to defend against attacks.
