Spam and Virus Filtering

Spam Filtering: Approve or Block Senders for non-Outlook Users

Office 365 Email makes it easy to block or allow senders right from Outlook.

If you do not use Outlook, you can use the instructions below to add email addresses to your list of approved/safe senders or blocked senders from Outlook Web Access.

Spam and Virus Filtering with Exchange Online Protection

Some of the many benefits of using Microsoft’s Office 365 email as the provider for my Pitt Email are the robust security features that have been integrated into the University’s email environment. These features include protection from:

PittNet(Wired): Configuring Windows 10 for Wired Publicly Accessible Network Ports

The 802.1x protocol is the protocol that is used for wired access to the University's network (PittNet) through publicly accessible network ports.

Email: Manage Your Spam

The University's Spam and Virus Filtering Service is activated for all student, faculty, and staff email accounts. The service works by scanning all incoming email addressed to your University email address (username@pitt.edu). For spam and viruses, My Pitt Email includes integrated mail filtering that quarantines suspect messages so they do not wind up in your inbox. Microsoft brands this function as “Exchange Online Protection.”
