What You Can Access
All University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, and staff can now access online resources made available by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) using their University Computing Account username and password. Using only your University Computing Account, you can currently access resources from:
The streamlined login process is made possible by the University's membership in the InCommon Federation and by Shibboleth. The InCommon Federation is a nationwide organization of more than 200 higher education institutions and other members serving the education and research community. Shibboleth is a behind-the-scenes authentication and authorization mechanism.
When accessing resources on the NIH website, you will be prompted to select a login link from a list of InCommon Federation members. Select the University of Pittsburgh link and a Pitt login page will display. Enter your University Computing Account username and password to log in.
If you have already created a separate NIH username and password, you will need to complete a one-time mapping process to link your existing NIH account to your Pitt account. You will receive an email from NIH explaining the mapping process. If you do not know your NIH username and password, the email will instruct you to contact the NIH Help Desk. Login instructions will also be provided on the University of Pittsburgh's new InCommon Federation login page.

How It Works
- Visit the external website whose resources you want to access (see list above).
- If you are asked to identify your institution, select University of Pittsburgh.
If you are not asked, it likely means that either the service to which you are connecting has a means to identify University of Pittsburgh users or you may have already visited the website.
- The standard login window will display. Log in with your University Computing Account username and password.
