How to Get Software
A variety of software is available at little or no cost to University students, faculty, and staff. Browse the list of available software for students or software for faculty, staff, and departments. See below for information on purchasing software.
- Individual faculty or staff members may purchase some software titles for personal use either at home or at the University.
- Departments can purchase software for professional use on University computers; some software license agreements also permit home use.
Note: This type of purchase must be done through PantherExpress, available at My Pitt.
- Faculty and staff may purchase software at the Technical Support Desk at the University Store on Fifth.
Note: Faculty and staff may ONLY purchase software at the Technical Support Desk if it is for PERSONAL HOME USE.
Software Available at No Cost
Students can download software at no cost including Microsoft Office, Windows, and other titles from the Software Download Service at My Pitt.

A current Pitt ID is required. You can pay by cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, and Panther Funds. Sales tax will be added to the price.
Students, faculty, and staff at regional campuses should contact the Technology Help Desk at 412 624-HELP  concerning personal purchases.
Departmental Software Purchases
Departmental software purchases are made through PantherExpress. CSSD will ship the software to your location. You may also elect to pick up the software. If you chose to pick up your order, CSSD will contact you when the order is ready. Orders requested for pickup at the University Store on Fifth will typically be available within two business days.
