Auto-Update to New Microsoft Teams Occurs July 1

Tuesday, June 25, 2024 - 23:28

Microsoft is updating the Teams desktop app for Windows and Mac for all remaining users of the classic version by Monday, July 1. After this date, the classic version will no longer function.

The new Teams desktop client offers a faster, simpler, and more flexible experience with the following enhancements:

  • Quick Loading: Launch the app and join meetings more efficiently.
  • Better Resource Utilization: Uses less battery and memory.
  • Multiple Account Support: Easily switch between accounts (e.g., UPMC and Pitt) from the account manager located in the upper-right corner of the menu taskbar.

This transition should not affect existing meetings, meeting links, joining meetings, chats, calendars, or assigned groups in Teams.

Students, faculty, and staff who have not yet updated to the new Teams environment can do so by following these steps:

  1. Launch your Teams desktop client.
  2. Slide the "Try the new Teams" setting switch on the top left-hand side of the menu ribbon to the right.

If you experience any issues or have questions related to Microsoft Teams, please submit a request to the Technology Help Desk or call +1-412-624-HELP (4357).
