Effective Saturday, Nov. 30, devices running macOS 12 (Monterey) will no longer be able to access University resources through PittNet VPN (Pulse Secure) or Global Protect VPN.
Apple ended support for macOS 12 on Sept. 16. Devices running unsupported operating systems cannot be patched with proper security updates and run the risk of being compromised, having sensitive data lost, or becoming an entry point to allow hackers to attack other computers and servers on the University’s network.
To continue to safeguard devices, protect data, and ensure the security of the University's computing environment, Pitt IT encourages all macOS 12 (Monterey) users to upgrade as soon as possible to a supported operating system, such as MacOS 13 (Ventura), 14 (Sonoma), or 15 (Sequoia).
Pitt IT is reaching out to individuals with unsupported operating systems who are connecting to University resources via VPN to make them aware of the change and assist as needed with the transition.
