Transforming IT to Better Serve You

Pitt Information Technology continually reimagines and transforms itself to better serve the evolving teaching, research, and business needs of the University. We are transforming the way we think about IT, the way we function as an organization, the way we collaborate with partners, and the way we support the University, the community, our region, and beyond.

Committed To Your Success

Our transformation involves an unwavering focus on customers and a recognition that customer needs drive our priorities. Delivering value to customers means providing the right service, at the right time, in the right way. It means engaging with and listening to our customers so that we can align our services with their needs. It means focusing on operational excellence and continual process improvements. It means creating a lean and reliable supply chain to maximize customer service and minimize customer costs. In short, it means helping you to succeed.

Facilitating Research Collaboration

We are also transforming our investment in, and support of, the University’s research enterprise. As an example, Pitt IT is partnering with Dell, UPMC, and others to establish a Health Sciences & Medical Innovation Hub that will contribute to Dell’s moonshot goal of positively impacting 1 billion people by 2030 (see Strategic Initiatives).

Impacting Our Community

Within the region, we continue to transform our community engagement and development efforts. We partner with the Office of Engagement and Community Affairs, the Office of Government Relations and Advocacy, and faculty to advance the University’s efforts to bridge the digital equity divide and level the digital playing field. Our many digital equity and inclusion efforts are outlined in Strategic Initiatives.

Optimizing Resources

Lastly, we seek out entrepreneurial endeavors that present opportunities to transform Pitt IT from a consumer of University resources to an enabler. As an example, this year Pitt IT auctioned an excess block of IPv4 addresses used for network devices, generating $3.3M in revenue for the University. We will continue to look for novel ways to drive out costs and bring in revenue.

The common thread running through every transformation initiative we undertake is the desire to maximize all of Pitt IT’s resources to align with and advance the University’s evolving priorities.
