Using Compatibility View in Internet Explorer 10

The most recent version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser, Internet Explorer 10, comes bundled with Windows 8. Some websites may not yet work correctly in Internet Explorer 10, including the PittNet VPN (virtual private network) service. You can still use these websites in Internet Explorer 10 by turning on Compatibility View.

Where are the menu items and toolbars?

The menu items and toolbars have given way to the Ribbon. The Ribbon is a thick bar at the top of the application window that contains icons which are grouped together by usage. For example, all the editing items are found on the Home tab on the Ribbon, while commands used for bibliographies and footnotes are on the References tab.

Forward calls to another University phone.

To activate, press [*] [2] from your phone. Enter the five-digit extension to which you want your calls to be forwarded. You will hear a confirmation tone. Hang up the handset.

Microsoft for Students: Download and Install

Overview

Microsoft Campus Software Agreement provides access to Microsoft 365 a suite of the most popular Microsoft applications, as well as operating systems, and programming software to regular full-time and part-time students. PittNet Wired: Manually Configuring Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), & Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) for Wired Publicly Accessible Network Ports

Overview

The 802.1x protocol is the protocol that is used for wired access to the University's network (PittNet) through publicly accessible network ports. These connections may be located in classrooms, conference rooms, or other public areas. 

Before you manually configure your computer, install the required InCommon certificates using the steps in Installing the InCommon and UserTrust Certificates (Mac).

Installing the InCommon and UserTrust Certificates (Windows)

Overview

You will need to install network certificates if you plan to use PittNet Wi-Fi. You will also need to install them if you connect your computer to a wired network port in a residence hall or public area (like a classroom or conference room). These instructions explain how to install the certificates manually on your Windows computer. Once the certificate are installed, you will then need to configure your operating system using a separate help sheet.
