STUDENT SUCCESS
Leveraging Applicant Data
Pitt IT helps schools engage effectively with prospective students by leveraging data within existing systems. We developed the Incomplete Application Tracker using Salesforce to capture and analyze data from started but unsubmitted applications, now being expanded to the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
Teaching High-Performance Computing
Pitt IT built a high-performance computing (HPC) teaching cluster that the Center for Research Computing (CRC) will make available to faculty beginning in fall 2024. Faculty will utilize the cluster to expose students to HPC concepts within their class curriculum, and the CRC will use the cluster for workshops that it hosts.
SCHOLARSHIP, CREATIVITY, AND INNOVATION
Enabling Virtual Reality for Teaching and Learning
Harnessing the power of virtual reality (VR), the School of Computing and Information (SCI) and the University Library System (ULS) are exploring proof-of-concept initiatives to create immersive educational experiences. Pitt IT has partnered with these schools to provide custom wireless networking for Apple Vision Pro and Oculus VR solutions, which will help SCI evaluate the potential of VR in virtual surgeries and ULS research possibilities for virtual teaching and learning.
"Graduates have been adding deep learning and AI methods to their CVs and have been picked up by employers who are saying to them, 'We want this. You've done exactly what we would hope you would've done.' And that makes them much more employable in that field. It's exciting."
