Dear colleagues:

During the past year, Pitt Information Technology made incredible strides in leveraging technology to advance the Plan for Pitt and facilitate the University’s academic, research, and administrative priorities. Our achievements are a testament to the collective effort and dedication of our entire Pitt IT team, along with our strategic partners and the broader University community.

  • In FY24, we embarked on several transformative initiatives to lead in health sciences and medical research, including a partnership with Dell to establish the Health Sciences & Medical Innovation Hub, supported by a $1.6 million grant, positioning Pittsburgh as a hub for computationally enabled health sciences.

  • We continued our commitment to digital access supporting Pennsylvania counties in securing federal funds to build affordable, high-speed internet and collaborating with the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and the University Center for Teaching and Learning to enhance access here at Pitt.

  • Cybersecurity continues to be a top priority with strengthened defenses through partnerships with the FBI and the National Security Agency, and the implementation of the DMARC Email Validation System to enhance email security.

  • The One IT @ Pitt initiative continues integrating IT resources across the University, improving customer engagement and aligning services with the specific needs of various units and schools.

  • We also advanced digital enablement and network modernization, focusing on a wireless-first approach to boost connectivity and reduce costs. High-speed residence hall Wi-Fi, previously available to regional campuses, now uses the same provider as the Pittsburgh campus.

As we prepare for a rapidly changing technology landscape, our digital processes, tools, and platforms must remain agile to support the Plan for Pitt. Pitt IT is ready to meet these challenges by creating personalized learning experiences, accelerating research innovation, and providing new tools and approaches that enhance Pitt’s strengths. Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

Hail to Pitt!

Mark D. Henderson
Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer
