Digital Enablement and PittNet Modernization Initiative

IT'S POSSIBLE AT PITT

In support of the University's Plan for Pitt, Pitt IT and Deloitte Consulting engaged stakeholders from the University, strategic vendor partners, and leaders of city government and local institutions to develop a Technology 10-Year Horizon. This plan, now being socialized for feedback, will address emerging trends, evolving needs, and innovative solutions. Some of the priorities it explores include personalized learning pathways, improved broadband access, transformative technologies for research and workforce development, and positioning Pittsburgh as the epicenter for computationally enabled health sciences.

PittNet Modernization

Exceptional connectivity and dependable support drive our PittNet Modernization initiative. Pitt IT is advancing network infrastructure, optimizing resources, and reducing costs to support a wireless-first approach. We have redeployed or retired 68 network switches, saving approximately $400,000. By procuring a new telephone system support vendor and refining agreements with internet providers, we continue to reimagine our systems to fit our evolving needs.

In collaboration with our strategic vendor partner Apogee, Pitt IT upgraded Residence Hall Wi-Fi service in all Pittsburgh campus residence halls to deliver faster speeds, support more simultaneous devices, and make connecting even easier.

Improving Network Connections at Regional Campuses

Pitt IT and Apogee also expanded the high-speed Residence Hall Wi-Fi service to Pitt Johnstown. In addition, we improved the internet setup at the School of Social Work’s Mechanicsburg facility, saving $1,800 monthly and enhancing reliability.
