Pitt IT's Community Impact
WELCOMING AND ENGAGED
Advancing Digital Equity
In addition to our ongoing partnerships with community engagement centers, Pitt IT is spearheading the effort to position the University as the lead applicant in collaboration with community organizations for the Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program funded by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.
Sparking Interest in Cybersecurity
Supporting access to digital literacy and technology, Pitt IT partners with Pitt Cyber each year to host the Air Force Association CyberCamp. During this week-long event, high school students develop foundational skills by discovering different facets of cybersecurity, like cyber hygiene, Windows and Linux system administration, and more. CyberCamp inspires students to pursue careers in cybersecurity, and more than 12% of attendees have later enrolled at Pitt. CyberCamp was highlighted in a November 2023 White House fact sheet discussing Pittsburgh’s role as a Workforce Hub.
Providing “Learn and Earn” Opportunities for High School Students
Pitt is now a worksite provider in the City of Pittsburgh’s six-week Learn and Earn program. Partnering with the Neighborhood Learning Alliance, we help low-income youth gain job experience and career exposure. This year, five high school students applied their skills at Pitt IT computing labs, supporting rebuilds and other tasks, furthering our commitment to digital equity and inclusion.
