Pitt IT Impact Across the University
STUDENT SUCCESS
Empowering Students
Pitt IT’s Tech Ambassadors program continues to empower students by helping their peers make the most of available technology. Events like the Pitt Tank competition focus on increasing data literacy among students. We also developed a new Student Technology Checklist in partnership with the Office of the Provost to assist incoming students with keeping track of essential tasks.
Preparing for Emergencies
Pitt IT refined the Emergency Notification System with the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, ensuring all Pittsburgh campus students are automatically registered for text alerts in addition to email communications.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRUST
Enhancing Efficiency and Security
Pitt IT continually enhances the customer experience by simplifying processes such as the automatic renewal of faculty and staff ID cards and launching a new IT Services portal. We also collaborated with the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid to streamline the University Computing Account activation process for students.
“Pitt IT has been phenomenal. We told them what we wanted to see and they followed through. They took the time to understand what we do and how we do it. Then, they showed us what could be done.”
- Leah Melvin, Assistant Manager, Budget & Financial Reporting Department
Advancing Analytics
Pitt IT launched the Analytics Enablement Program as part of our Analytics Modernization effort. The program works to equip the University community to better make informed, data-driven decisions by modernizing available tools and centralizing on the Alteryx data analytics platform. In addition, the program provides customized training to help staff make the most of the tools.
Solutions and Services Collaboration
Pitt IT partners with key stakeholders across the University on the discovery process with potential vendor solutions, including identifying system requirements and conducting product demonstrations. This work is done collaboratively to ensure decisions are inclusive and align with the University’s needs. These efforts highlight Pitt IT's commitment to enabling the University’s mission through innovative applications, services, and solutions. By fostering strong partnerships and delivering impactful technology, Pitt IT continues to drive operational excellence and advance the University’s strategic goals.
Supercharging Research Accounting Workflows
Pitt IT collaborated with departments to enhance workflows, resulting in significant cost and time savings. Improvements in the Office of Sponsored Programs and Sponsored Projects Accounting processes this year accelerated cash settlements by ~$10M monthly, reduced annual staffing costs by ~$87,000, saved $80,000 by preemptively reducing potential bad debt, and significantly reduced staff time spent on invoicing tasks. Additionally, we enhanced email marketing through Salesforce workshops.
IT'S POSSIBLE AT PITT
Advancing Artificial Intelligence
Pitt IT participated in the formation of the Pitt Artificial Intelligence Scholar-Teacher Alliance (PASTA) group to unite faculty in discussing AI's opportunities and challenges in research, teaching, learning, and workforce development. We also launched a comprehensive AI security training course and are developing a draft Acceptable Use Policy to guide responsible AI practices. Each initiative contributes to our understanding of what safe AI integration looks like for our University community.
